We did it. Duneland
Xtreme Sports, a non-profit citizen's organization formed to
promote
positive action sports and build a park got it done! After 5 years of fund raising and planning, the park is now open. Although we ran out of money to build the final 2 ramps, we have the materials and hope to get those added next year.
As soon as the weather was nice skaters and bikers were out on the cement pad
making their own ramps, jumps and rails. Soon the permanent ramps started
going in.

Why was the skate park created? -To establish Chesterton as a regional attraction and a contemporary community to live in.
-To provide a safe environment and engaging activity for the youth.
-To reduce the potential of personal injuries & traffic accidents.
-To reduce wear & tear on property.
-To legitimize the interests of the youth. To give youth a place they identify with, as their own space.
-To give the youth an opportunity for community development.

AT
RISK YOUTH
Porter County has the sad ranking of the 3rd largest number of heroin
drug
cases per-capita of all counties in the U.S.
A
skate park is not the cure-all, but provides an activity
area for diverting kids from drugs. You will be helping
the most AT RISK age group, in the most AT RISK generation in recent
times.
The adolescent & teen times are extremely formative years. Community support, not distain, will help them grow.
