Duneland
Xtreme Sports is a non-profit citizen's organization
dedicated to promoting
positive action sports through special events with youth community building. It is also
our goal to build a skate park
for skateboarders, bmx bikers and in-line skaters.
Why does Duneland need a skate park? -To establish Chesterton as a regional attraction and a contemporary community to live in.
-To provide a safe environment and engaging activity for the youth.
-To reduce the potential of personal injuries & traffic accidents.
-To reduce wear & tear on property.
-To legitimize the interests of the youth. To give youth a place they identify with, as their own space.
-To give the youth an opportunity for community development.

Six Duneland skateboarders attended the Lake Owen action sports camp in Cable, WI, this July. In a competition out of 117 campers, Kaleb Luddington took second place and Billy Mullin took first place in the intermediate division. The competition was classified into advanced and intermediate. The event comprised of a 5 minute run, where skateboarders would drop into opposing quarter pipe ramps with various ledges, grinding rails, boxes, barriers and pyramids in the area between.
Camp Owen is a nationally recognized facility, associated with Woodward camps on the east and west coast, having the most progressive skateboard instructional programs. During the week Lake Owen hosted
visiting professional skateboarders,Steve Messer and Emmanuel Guzman who demonstrated technique and tricks. The typical day for skaters included three hours of instruction and seven hours of free skate. The areas include two indoor gyms, an upper and lower street course, vert ramp and outdoor spine.
